Get Android Notifications on your Computer Screen

Posted: 31 Jul 2013 05:30 AM PDT
For all those people who find it very hard to stay away from their phone even for a minute, this post will be really helpful. How many times does it happen to you that you forget your phone at home? Well that’s very common with everyone and we tend to miss our phone somewhere and feel that if we are missing on some important calls and notifications.
Here is a solution to this, with the Android app called as Desktop Notifications you can now display the notifications right on your computer screen. That’s right; you won’t need to check your phone again and again as you will get the android notifications right on your computer desktop screen. Be it the missed call notification, text, email or anything, if your phone has got it then your computer has got it too.

How Desktop Notification works:
• You first need to install this app from the app store (links provided at the bottom) and install the browser extensions too in your computer.
• Now you need to enable the app in your phone from the Accessibility button in the Settings. It will generate a code that you need to enter in your computer browser to pair both of them.

• Click on the browser extension installed, and enter the code to pair them.

• That’s it. Now whenever your phone will receive any notification you don’t need to check it again and again for it, as you can see it right in front of you while working in office.
It is interesting to note here that the notifications on your desktop will not result in any action as they are just notifications which means you won’t be able to reply to any notification from your computer and you need your phone for that purpose.

I would also suggest you to configure the app in your phone before using so that it works as per your needs like display either only the title or the title with the message contents.

INSTALL WINDOWS 7 ON A NET-BOOK/LAPTOP/DESKTOP WITH A PEN-DRIVE.

There are very much ways to install windows 7 on a system. Windows can be install by DVD,Network or Flash Drive.Nowadays flash drives are common  in use. There are also many ways to install windows by a flash derive also.

Method One.

This is the easiest way to install windows by pen drive( USB Flash Drive).

1) Take a 4 GB Pen Drive (Minimum)
2) Format this drive with FAT 32 file system.
3) Copy the ISO image to pen drive with command line.
xcopy d:\ e:\ /d /e (where d: is the DVD drive which contains windows cd in it and e: is the pen drive location)
It will create a boot-able windows 7 pen-drive.

Method Two.

1) Download/Install Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool from Microsoft site. This tool also work with Vista ISO.
2) Run the program.
3) Select the source file from computer and click next.
4) Select USB device. You are given the option to either burn to a DVD or create a USB device.Click USB Device.
5) Choose your USB device. Make sure that your flash drive is connected correctly. You will  need at least 4GB space on your flash drive to copy over the Windows installation.
6) The program will format the USB drive to boot correctly, then copy the ISO file onto the   drive. The copying process can take up to 15 minutes to complete, depending on the speed of your machine.

Method Three.

1) Plug-in your Flash Drive. First plug-in your USB stick to your USB port and copy all the content to a safe location in your hard drive

2) Run Command Prompt as an administrator. To open a command prompt, go to the Start menu and search for CMD. Right-click on it and select Run as Administrator to use it with     admin rights

4) Running DISKPART will display the version of DISKPART you are running and the name of  your PC.

5) Type “list disk” to see a display of all your connected disk drives. Make a note of the number assigned to your Flash drive.
6) Format the drive. Execute the following list of commands one-by-one. Make sure you replace Disk 1 with the proper Disk number from DISKPART.

select disk 1

clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=NTFS QUICK
assign
exit

7) Make the flash drive bootable. Use the bootsect utility that is shipped with Windows7 / Vista . To do so:

8) Insert the Windows 7/Vista DVD and note down the drive letter of the DVD drive. For this guide, the DVD drive is D: and the USB drive is G:.
9) Navigate to the directory where bootsect is found.
D:
cd d:\boot
10) Use the bootsect to make the USB Drive bootable. This updated the drive with BOOTMGR compatible code and prepares it to boot Windows 7/Vista.
BOOTSECT.EXE/NT60 G:
11) Close the Command Prompt windows.
12) Copy all files from the Windows 7/Vista DVD to the formatted USB stick. The safest and  the fastest way would be to use the Windows Explorer. Open the disk, select everything, and drag it into your flash drive. This could take a few minutes to copy.

Automatically Send Message Alerts to Selected Contacts when Phone Battery Low

We all like to use our cell phones for various things like internet, watching videos, playing games and using other apps but this activity results in huge battery consumption leaving us with no other option but to recharge the cell phone battery. Nobody likes recharging the battery again and again but this problem worsens when we have only little battery power left and we are in middle of some important conversation.
What would you do if you have only little battery left, not even enough to alert the other person that your phone is going to die out of battery? Well here is an application right for this scenario. The application is known as Last Message and can be used to notify the other person (or those selected by you) that you are currently running out of battery and that too automatically whenever your phone battery reaches some specified power.

The application is very simple to use, you just need to set your text message which shall be delivered to the other people, whom to deliver and how to deliver. You can choose any person from your contacts list or even many of them to know about your phone status. The application lets you send out text message, email, facebook update and a twitter message whenever the battery percentage is low.

You just need to download and install the app on your Android phone, configure the settings for some options, and have it running in the background. If you feel you don’t need the app to be run always, then you can also set the schedule run of the app. The app also displays the stats of the usage, that is, how is your battery usage, last recharge, power available time and all.

In my view, the app is really useful for a person who is using a phone that is mostly out of battery or for someone who is required to travel a lot. You can watch a video on the app by visiting the link below.

Recover Deleted WhatsApp Conversations from iPhone and Android

WhatsApp has become so popular that most people use this as their communication media instead of sending a regular text. Moreover since the regular text messages are not free for everyone, and because of the advantages WhatsApp has, no wonder it is liked by almost everyone.
Most of my friends are also on WhatsApp to whom I chat regularly. Sometimes it happens we accidentally delete our conversations from WhatsApp or may be at will but later realize that we need those deleted messages. What shall you do in that case? Well here is a free online utility to help you out.
recover-messages
With this utility called Recover Messages, you can easily recover deleted WhatsApp conversations from your iPhone or an Android phone. Even if your conversation got the photos, it can recover those easily too. You just need to perform certain steps to be able to get those back.
Steps:
1. To get the messages back, we first need the database file which has everything stored in it. If you using an Android phone, then you can get it here/sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases/msgstore.db.crypt
2. iPhone users can find it here net.whatsapp.WhatsApp/Documents/ChatStorage.sqlite(You can use an iPhone Backup Tool to get the file, e.g. I-Twin or iPhone Backup Extractor. Make sure to create an unencrypted backup with Itunes, as these tools can’t handle encrypted backups)
3. Now when you have found your WhatsApp DBs you just need to visit the RecoverMessageswebsite, browse for this file and click Scan.

If you are not able to help yourself with the steps above, then may be WhatsApp default process can. For this, you need to uninstall and reinstall the WhatsApp messenger on your phone and select the option of Restore Message History at installation.

Analyze your Breath for Alcohol with your Smartphone

We all like to party, don’t us? Every time I go to a party, the first thing that comes to my mind is not to drive back home after getting drunk. Well this is what stops me most times when I am the only person driving back home. We should not drive after drinking as it reduces our response time to activities, thereby increasing chances of accident.
There are times when we drink very little or start feeling sober after long time, it is when we are not sure if we should drive or not. While it is not advised to drive after drinking, there is certain legal limit under which if your Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is, you are permitted to drive. Then how shall we determine that limit?
Well almost every one of us have a smartphone these days, so wouldn’t it be useful if there is someway using which we can analyze our breath for alcohol and measure the BAC? Here is a small device called Breathometer that is designed specifically for this purpose.
breathometer-analyzing-breath
Breathometer is the next generation breathalyzer that provides an accurate BAC measurement that enables smarter decisions. Breathometer is the World’s First Smartphone Breathalyzertoo. The device is small enough to be carried along to a party and can fit into your smaprtphone using the headphone jack.
So next time before driving back home just analyze your breath with Breathometer so that you can be sure enough if you are permitted to drive or not. The Breathometer device connects to your iPhone or Android device via the audio jack. All you need to do is, download the appropriate app for your phone, connect the device and blow into it.

The app is available for both iOS (running iOS 5 or above) and Android users (running OS 4 or above) using which they can get the BAC results instantly.
P.S.: We advise our readers to not drink and drive at all.
The device is still in production right now but you can make your pledge for the specified amount and see the delivery options by visiting the homepage below.

Charge your Cell Phone Battery with a Hot or Cold Drink Glass

One thing that I never like to see is my dying phone battery when I am out for a party or at work with no charger with me. The red sign of the battery is the most dreadful sign at this moment. While most of us have the spare charger but it is the time and the feasibility to charge the cell phone that keeps us away from charging.
What if I tell you, you can now charge your cell phone with that glass of cold beer that you have in your hand or with a cup of hot coffee? I am sure you won’t believe me, but thanks to this compact heat engine (that we are discussing today) you can, almost anywhere, charge up your cell phone battery.
The team of some developers called the “Epiphany Labs” has developed a small device that can actually charge up your cell phone battery with a glass of any hot or cold drink. The device is called “Epiphany onE Puck”. The Epiphany onE Puck can connect to your iPhone, any Android phone or any iPod that uses the USB charging method.
So basically any USB device that can be charged through a USB cable and draws a power of up to 1000 mA or less can be charged using this Epiphany onE Puck device.
epiphany-one-puck-cold-charging
How Epiphany onE Puck works:
The device has two sides, one for Hot drinks (Red side) and other for the cold drinks (Blue side). The device makes use of the difference in temperature of the device itself and the drink, to convert this energy difference into the power, enough to charge up the mobile phone.
epiphany-one-puck-hot-charging
That simply means, higher the difference in temperature, higher and faster the charging will be. So a freshly brought cup of coffee would produce more charging than a cup of mild hot coffee.
Thus next time when you are at some club holding a beer or at work grabbing a coffee, you don’t need to run away to charge up your cell phone. This device is compact enough to be carried in pocket and looks good too.

Never Store Passwords in Email

Most of us have this practice of keeping their passwords of various accounts in email as it is lot handy and easily accessible at all places. While the practice is easy, it is very risky too. To discourage the use of this practice, I thought of sharing the info in the Tip of the Week section.
As most people think, storing the passwords to many accounts like other email IDs, bank accounts or other personal details like PIN number of credit/debit card etc. in email is safe and easy. On the contrary, the practice is very risky and should be discouraged immediately.
The biggest risk in this practice is that if somebody comes to know your account passwords or in simple words hacks into your email account then it would be very simple for him to hack your other online accounts as well. Now the person doing this may not be good enough to not to do anything mischievous with your other accounts.
Thus in my opinion, nobody should use this practice and if you are also following the same thenTS advises you to discourage the same.
